TORRE GLORIES
A work of structural engineering that is comparable to Jean Nouvel's design.
SOCOTEC's professional team has carried out the structural design and construction management of the construction project for the Torre Glòries in Barcelona, the iconic skyscraper designed by Jean Nouvel.
The vertical structure consists of 2 cylinders, exterior and interior, where slabs are supported without any vertical element in between.
The last 6 slabs are supported in cantilever with post-tensioning techniques from the inner core without contacting the outer perimeter.
HOTEL ARTS
Structural elements that define aesthetics
SOCOTEC's professional team has carried out the structural design and construction management of the construction project of the Hotel Arts in Barcelona, a joint work of the American architecture teams Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and Frank O. Ghery.
The structural organization is based on the idea of transferring the main stability system to the façades, hence the triangular elements and the proposal of a structure of articulated knots that resolves the formation of roofs. An engineering solution, which elevates the structural elements to an aesthetic and compositional plane.
GINER DE LOS RIOS
Structural engineering to guarantee constructive viability
SOCOTEC devised the structural design and construction process of the new headquarters buildings and the rehabilitation of Giner's house and the wooden pavilion.
The project, winner of a public competition of ideas, has as its central objective to recover the garden as the center of activity of the institution and increase its facilities by building two basements below the existing buildings.
The structural engineering of the proposal not only faced the design of unique spaces, but also the process of building basements, keeping part of the existing constructions in a very restricted location for the execution of the works.
VELES E VENTS BUILDING
The floating jewel of the America's Cup in Valencia
SOCOTEC has led the structural design and construction management of the Foredeck Building (known as Veles E Vents) in Valencia, a symbol of the 32nd America's Cup.
Conceived as a symbol of this prestigious event, the building has four floors structured as large floating planes, supported only by four concrete cores that house the vertical communications.
The complexity of the design is manifested in the slabs offset in height, which vary in size from 52x32 meters on the second floor to 68x43 meters on the third. These structures must withstand open spans of up to 30 meters and cantilevers of 14 meters, which represents a significant technical challenge due to the high loads inherent in public use.
