SOCOTEC opens the first phase of its new state-of-the-art facilities in Barcelona

SOCOTEC launches the first phase of its new facilities in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona), where it will house its geotechnical, monitoring, inspection and quality control laboratory activities.

With an initial surface area of 2,800 m² and an investment of €300,000, these facilities are shaping up to be one of the largest and most modern in Catalonia.

SOCOTEC expects to reach a turnover of 50 million euros and generate 200 new jobs in the next 5 years.

A game-changing technological breakthrough

SOCOTEC's new facilities position it as a benchmark in quality control, incorporating the most advanced technologies in the sector. In fact, SOCOTEC becomes the only laboratory in Barcelona that has this state-of-the-art technological equipment, which allows it to offer its clients a wide range of services with the utmost precision and reliability. Among the most outstanding technologies are:

 

Automated Asphalt Analyzer

This equipment completely automates the bituminous mixture analysis process, significantly reducing worker exposure to chlorinated solvent vapors and emissions into the atmosphere. In addition, it allows for more accurate results to be obtained in a considerably shorter time.

Automatic soil triaxial apparatus for scientific mechanics

This state-of-the-art equipment facilitates the performance of automatic soil triaxial tests, providing highly accurate information on the geotechnical behavior of materials

Automated Deformation and Resistance Measurement Equipment

SOCOTEC has automated data collection from equipment that measures deformation in soil samples and strength and deformation in "direct shear" tests. This automation reduces error sources, increases measurement accuracy, and optimizes production.

A step forward towards excellence

 

The first phase of SOCOTEC's facilities, scheduled for completion in September 2024, marks a significant milestone in its growth trajectory. With this new infrastructure, the company positions itself to significantly expand its service offerings in the areas of contaminated soils, offshore geotechnics, renewable energy, NDTs, oil & gas, structural and geotechnical monitoring, bituminous mixtures, soil and rock mechanics, and others.

 

The 5-year projections are ambitious: SOCOTEC expects to reach a business volume of 50 million euros and generate 200 new jobs.
