Project details
SOCOTEC is part of the Urban Regeneration Plan for the Besòs y Maresme district of Barcelona
The regeneration plan is part of the Integrated and Sustainable Urban Development Strategies for the Besòs district. For David Escudé, Councillor of the Sant Martí district, it is a “trailblazing project for the whole country due to its scale, significance and management”.
The work carried out as part of this project includes not only structural studies but also studies of buildings’ energy efficiency, involving 203 residents’ associations that cover 5,188 homes, with the aim of:
- promoting social inclusion and fighting poverty; and
- improving access and accessibility for residents.
The technical team is in charge of inspecting the residential units covered by the urban regeneration plan and is responsible for on-site data collection in the residential units and shared areas, performing technical building inspections, and drafting reports on energy efficiency. Work has also been carried out to collect samples for aluminosis tests since, according to Lluis Aranda, Director of structural studies at SOCOTEC, "we suspect that these buildings, which date from the 1960s, were built with joists made of aluminous cement".
Once all the data has been collected, the plans prepared by the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Urbanism (IMU) will be put into action to allow it to make the relevant decisions and start the improvements.
