SOCOTEC digitizes 441 primary care centers using 3D point cloud laser technology
- Client: Primary Care Management of the Community of Madrid
- Location: Madrid capital and municipalities of the Community of Madrid
- Year: 2025-2026
- Number of centres: 441 primary care centres
SOCOTEC has developed an ambitious digitalisation project for the primary care management of the Community of Madrid, using 3D laser scanning technology for the point cloud survey of health centres.
This project represents one of the most extensive initiatives for the digitalisation of healthcare infrastructures carried out in Spain through Laser Sacanning, covering more than 663,000 m² distributed between Madrid capital and the municipalities of the Community of Madrid.
The magnitude of the project requires exceptional logistical coordination, working in active environments where healthcare activity cannot be interrupted, demonstrating SOCOTEC's ability to adapt to the most demanding operating conditions.

LASER SCANNER
Maximum precision technology: Leica BLK laser scanner

The project uses state-of-the-art Leica BLK 3D laser scanning equipment, which allows point clouds to be generated with millimeter precision.
This technology revolutionizes traditional methods of architectural surveying, significantly reducing work times and improving the accuracy of the data obtained.
The post-processing of the point clouds includes correction and optimization of data, ensuring the highest quality in the resulting digital information. This methodology allows each space, facility and architectural element of health centres to be documented in extraordinary detail.

POINT CLOUD
HXDR Reality Cloud Digital Platform

One of the most outstanding innovations of the project is the implementation of the HXDR Reality Cloud platform, which allows the storage, visualization and sharing of point clouds in an agile and secure way.
This digital tool provides the client with immediate access to all the information captured, allowing remote consultations and real-time collaboration between different work teams.
The platform constitutes a permanent digital repository that facilitates future interventions, maintenance and management of spaces, representing considerable added value for the management of health infrastructures.

Technical complexity in point cloud processing
One of the main challenges of the project has been to overcome technical challenges related to the processing of point clouds and their integration into specialized software. The massive nature of the data captured by 3D laser scanning requires advanced technical management and streamlined processes. SOCOTEC has managed to solve these challenges progressively thanks to the experience accumulated in similar projects, developing efficient workflows that guarantee the quality and accuracy of the final data.
Magnitude of the project and logistical coordination
The scope of the project represents an exceptional challenge: the comprehensive scanning of 441 primary care centres with a total of 663,675.59 m² distributed between Madrid capital and the municipalities of the Community of Madrid. This magnitude implies complex logistical planning that requires continuous coordination with multiple teams and locations, optimizing resources and times to meet the established deadlines while maintaining the technical quality in each lift.
Operations in Active Healthcare Environments
One of the most significant challenges has been to carry out the scans within fully functioning health centers, where there is a constant flow of patients and health personnel. This situation has required meticulous coordination with doctors, nurses and administrative staff, carefully managing access times to consultations and care rooms so as not to interfere with the essential care activity of each centre.
Managing Permissions and Access Protocols
The management of permits and constant communication with each center has represented another important challenge of the project. Coordinating accesses, schedules and specific work protocols for each health facility, ensuring compliance with internal regulations and safety protocols, has required a personalized approach and fluid communication with those responsible for each primary care center.
