SOCOTEC obtains the official Carbon Footprint seal from the Ministry for Ecological Transition

Tue 14/07/2026 - 12:58

The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), through the Spanish Climate Change Office, has officially approved the registration of the companies SOCOTEC Engineering Solutions and Intercontrol a SOCOTEC Company in the carbon footprint, offsetting, and CO2 absorption projects registry.

By obtaining this official seal for our Scope 1+2 emissions (calculated for the 2024 financial year), we demonstrate to the market that we lead by example, internally applying the same decarbonization standards that we offer in each of our services.

GREEN TRUST

A strategic boost for our line

This recognition officially endorses our good practices and gives full meaning to the purpose of our GREEN TRUST by SOCOTEC line, a brand specifically conceived to guide and advise our clients in developing sustainable, safe, and low-carbon technical solutions.

By certifying and making our own emissions public, we guarantee to the organizations and administrations contracting our services that their provider complies with the strictest environmental standards, bringing total transparency, consistency, and trust to their projects

As Martí Riera, Sustainability Director of SOCOTEC Spain, points out:

"Obtaining this seal is an exercise in transparency and consistency. We cannot advise our clients on decarbonization without first applying the same level of demand within our own organization. Measuring our real impact with scientific rigor is the only way to design reduction plans that are truly viable and effective."

What does this certification consist of and what benefits does it bring us?

This official seal demonstrates that at SOCOTEC, we transparently calculate, report, and track our greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions. From now on, the Ministry will audit and officially publish our emission ratios, turning our environmental performance into public and verified data.

For our daily and commercial activity, this milestone translates into key competitive advantages:

  • Maximum competitiveness in tenders: Registration in this official registry is already an essential requirement or a high-weight scoring criterion in a growing number of both public and private tenders.

  • Technical guarantee and trust: We back our sustainability service portfolio with facts and official certifications in the market.

  • Real progress: It allows us to evaluate with mathematical precision and continue reducing the direct environmental impact of our daily activities in offices and projects.

Next steps on our sustainable journey

This achievement represents only the first step in our decarbonization roadmap. The Sustainability team is already working on the footprint for 2025 with the goal of expanding the scope and incorporating Scope 1+2+3, a step that will be taken as soon as the data from the Group's global sustainability report is consolidated.

Regarding the 2025 registry, the registration will be unified to reflect and encompass all SOCOTEC offices in Spain. Likewise, our next major technical challenge will be to achieve certification under the demanding standards of the ISO 14064 or the GHG Protocol.
