At SOCOTEC we have carried out a complete quality control program for the Madring Formula 1 circuit
The new Formula 1 circuit in Madrid, known as the "Madring", will become one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year in September 2026. Promoted by IFEMA MADRID, this project represents a true benchmark for sports infrastructure in Spain and marks the return of the Spanish Grand Prix to the capital.
With a length of 5.4 kilometres, 22 curves and a capacity for 110,000 spectators, the circuit will be located between the Ifema fairgrounds and the Valdebebas neighbourhood, in the north-east of Madrid. Its hybrid or semi-urban character distinguishes it from other routes, combining public roads with elite sports infrastructure. The agreement signed with the FIA guarantees the celebration of the Grand Prix until 2035, consolidating Madrid as the permanent headquarters of the highest category of world motorsport.

Main quality control services provided by SOCOTEC
Our multidisciplinary team has implemented a complete quality control program for the Formula 1 circuit that includes:
Quality control for Formula 1 Madring circuit
Since April 2025, SOCOTEC has been developing quality control for the Formula 1 Madrid circuit, working for the UTE Circuito Madrid.
Our intervention is essential to ensure that each phase of the work strictly complies with the technical specifications of the UTE and the demanding international standards of the FIA for Grade 1 homologation.
Quality control for Formula 1 circuitry requires absolute precision. We carry out extensive testing and testing of materials in all phases of construction, from earthworks to final asphalting, ensuring that the infrastructure can withstand the extreme conditions imposed by racing cars at speeds in excess of 300 km/h.

BANKED CURVE
This curve is an unprecedented technical challenge
One of the elements that makes this project unique is the construction of the longest banked curve ever built on a Formula 1 circuit.
This 550-metre section has a cant of 24%, an extreme slope that requires millimetre precision in the quality control of the materials.
SOCOTEC has deployed a specific quality control protocol for the Formula 1 circuit in this critical area, verifying the strength and durability of the pavements that will have to withstand the high G-forces generated by the single-seaters. Every layer of material, every compaction, and every adhesion test is documented and verified to ensure pilot safety and structural integrity for decades.

Sustainability and circular economy in the construction of the Formula 1 circuit
The Madrid circuit project stands out for its firm commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, aspects that SOCOTEC has verified through rigorous quality controls. The reuse of 60% of the excavated material is planned, approximately 700,000 m³ of earth that will be reused on the same plot to execute unique elements of the route such as "La Monumental".
This strategy drastically reduces heavy road transport and the associated carbon footprint. In addition, as an innovative pilot project, portable solar panels with storage capacity have been installed that supply 100% renewable electricity to offices, changing rooms and construction canteens, completely replacing traditional fuel generators.
SOCOTEC's expertise in high-performance sports infrastructures
SOCOTEC has extensive experience in quality control for professional competition circuits and sports facilities. Our expertise ranges from the verification of high-demand pavements to the control of safety elements in professional racing environments.
We have been involved in numerous sports infrastructure projects where safety, technical accuracy and regulatory compliance are critical. Our quality control methodology for the Formula 1 circuit is based on international protocols, state-of-the-art equipment and a highly specialized technical team in material testing for infrastructures subjected to extreme dynamic loads.
In the field of motorsport infrastructure, we understand that every detail counts: from the exact composition of the asphalt mixtures to the surface roughness that ensures optimal tyre grip. Our mission is to preserve the integrity of these unique facilities, extending their useful life and ensuring that they meet the most demanding safety and performance standards year after year.
