SOCOTEC: Official Sponsor of the 7th International Conference on Geotechnical and Geophysical Site Characterization

Wed 05/06/2024 - 12:37

The 7th International Conference on Geotechnical and Geophysical Site Characterization, themed "Ground Models: From Big Data to Engineering Judgment," will feature SOCOTEC as an official sponsor and its experts in geotechnic testing in attendance.

This event, organized by ISSMGE’s TC102 (Technical Committee for Ground Property Characterization from In-Situ Tests), will gather national and international geotechnical experts and professionals from June 18 to 21 in Barcelona, Spain.

A Successful Trajectory in Barcelona

The conference's successful history will continue in Barcelona, where the ISC'7 will be held at the UPC BarcelonaTech's Campus Nord facilities from June 17 to 21, 2024. Endorsed by the Spanish Society of Soil Mechanics, the CII7 aims to be a meeting point for all professionals and experts in the field.

Sessions Focused on the Future of Geotechnics

The conference sessions will combine applications and research in the field, focusing on aspects such as:

  • Development of ground models for large and small projects.
  • Direct application of in-situ tests for the design of geotechnical structures.
  • Development of new testing devices and procedures.
  • Integration of monitoring techniques into site characterization.
  • Role of Big Data and machine learning in site characterization.
  • Use of numerical simulation techniques as an aid to geotechnical and geophysical testing.
  • Specific challenges associated with the characterization of tailings storage facilities.

SOCOTEC Experts

Present Their Studies

Within the framework of the 7th International Conference on Geotechnical and Geophysical Site Characterization's presentation program, SOCOTEC experts Josep Raventós, Head of Instrumentation and Monitoring, José Luis Rubio, and Laia Casas from the geotechnical team, will present their studies on:

CPTU onshore testing with pre-drilling and/or re-drilling of the ground at the Port of Barcelona. Lessons learned

In this presentation, SOCOTEC experts will share their experience in conducting CPTU (Cone Penetration Test with Pore Pressure and Uplift) tests on land, with a particular focus on applying pre-drilling and/or re-drilling techniques. The study is based on a project developed at the Port of Barcelona and will allow attendees to learn about the advantages and challenges of this

Instrumentation Symposium "Mynisimposia on field monitoring in geomechanics"

Josep Raventós, Head of Instrumentation and Monitoring at SOCOTEC, will moderate the session "Mynisimposia on field monitoring in geomechanics" within the instrumentation symposium that will be held within the framework of the conference. This session will focus on the importance of field monitoring in geomechanics to verify the input data used in the original design and assess the integrity of structures during construction.

Raventós, together with other experts, will highlight the need for better understanding, interpretation, and presentation of field measurements to obtain valuable information from monitoring.
