SOCOTEC's commitment to efficiency: photovoltaic self-consumption as an opportunity for the industrial rooftop

Tue 30/09/2025 - 13:13

SOCOTEC's facilities in Montcada i Reixac are on track to become one of the first industries with energy self-consumption in the area, thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) panel roof

This model, which focuses on leveraging large industrial rooftop areas, is positioned as a key opportunity for the sector's energy efficiency.

This initiative aligns with the growing need for the industry not only to cover its consumption but also to maximize the potential of its roofs. As analyzed in a recent TV3 news report, there is a debate on the need for better incentives and regulations so that companies use the entirety of their rooftops for solar panels, and not just the portion intended for immediate self-consumption.

"The natural tendency of the industry is to only install the roofing necessary for its consumption. And this way, we are losing an opportunity," the TV3 analysis underlines, emphasizing that while the solution is technically feasible, it remains legally complicated.

Photovoltaic Self-Consumption at SOCOTEC

"The electrification of our Montcada i Reixac facilities is not just a technical advance; it's a firm step toward energy efficiency that directly translates into a strategic reduction of our operating costs. Sustainability is profitability."

Impact and Benefits of the Installation

With this project, SOCOTEC not only reaffirms its commitment to sustainability but also achieves quantifiable results in terms of environmental and economic impact:

  • Estimated Annual Generation: 75,000 kW/h.

  • Estimated Annual Economic Savings: 10,000 €.

  • Impact Reduction: The equivalent of avoiding the emission of 100 t of CO2 per year

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

With these proactive measures, SOCOTEC demonstrates that sustainability and profitability go hand in hand. The company not only achieves a significant reduction in its energy expenses by optimizing internal consumption, but also exerts a direct positive impact on the environment.

By committing to self-consumption and electrification, SOCOTEC actively contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing its carbon footprint. This commitment goes beyond regulations, positioning the company as a key player in building a more sustainable and resilient future for the entire industry.
